Strands of small interfering RNA (siRNA)
Strands of small interfering RNA (siRNA) adjust genetic expression. They can be manipulated to target genes associated with disease, but delivering them to the desired location is problematic because siRNA is easily chopped up in the body by enzymes. However, by nanocoating things like bandages with siRNA, it is delivered precisely to its target. When used in a scenario such as a tumor extraction, the researchers involved say the implanted siRNA could prevent it from coming back.

Neptune and Uranus have one thing in common with Earth
It turns out Neptune and Uranus have one thing in common with Earth -- jet streams.
But these aren't your average Earth-like jet streams. Neptune is particularly turbulent, boasting the strongest winds in the entire solar system, reaching speeds of over 1,300 mph (2,100 km/h). But latest results show that those winds are only found in a relatively thin layer of these planets’ atmospheres.
In a recent paper, lead author Yohai Kaspi and a group of researchers based in Israel and the US show that the viciously powerful winds in these worlds are confined to a relatively small region of their atmospheres, no more than 680 miles (1,100 km) deep.

Study marine biology
The diverse mix of coral species we see around the world are a result of shifts in the Earth's crust that occur over millions of years, such as the volcano-forming clash of tectonic plates, research from James Cook University has revealed. This means that, if corals continue to be damaged by climate change, they will be more difficult to replace than previously thought.

Australia's food and fuel security for the future
it would only take around 6,000 square kilometres of algae to produce enough oil for ALL of Australia's transport needs, a new report has found. And the research revealed if we did power our transport with algal biofuels, it would guarantee Australia's food and fuel security for the future and would create a new industry worth $50 billion to the economy.

Bandages coated in RNA
Bandages coated in RNA could heal severe wounds at the genetic level, new research suggests. The strands of RNA may actually be able to turn off or 'silence' genes in order to encourage wound healing, and RNA-laced polymers placed inside the body could help to kill tumour cells in the same way.

There's a new wi-fi speed record to break!
At the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, a new record has set the record at 40GB per second over a distance of about .6 of a mile. That’s like sending 10 high-def feature films.

Abu Dhabi is known for its incredible wealth largely due to the oil industry
Abu Dhabi is known for its incredible wealth largely due to the oil industry, but what might be less known is that they are envisioning a future without oil. Masdar City is poised to be the first zero-emission, skyscraper-free city. Vehicles are not permitted within the city limits. Instead, mass transit will be available to help traverse the city.
Just outside the city, solar and wind farms will provide electricity. Geothermal energy will be harnessed through the world’s largest hydrogen power plant. Masdar City will welcome many clean energy companies to set up shop and will even provide the headquarters for the International Renewable Energy Agency.
By the time it is completed in 2025, 40,000 residents and 50,000 commuters will be able to live and work in Masdar City with the goal of becoming the world leader in clean energy research and technology.

Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies
Researchers from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies have demonstrated that climate change has had an impact on global ocean life that we depend on. The study shows there have been important changes in catch composition in the past four decades, which has massive implications for coastal fishing communities and affects the world’s economy and food security.

Finding Alien Lifeforms - How would we know?
Finding Alien Lifeforms - How would we know?
Scientists once theorised that life forms on Saturn’s moon Titan might breathe hydrogen instead of oxygen. Other theories suggest life on other planets could be based on silicon, which shares many of carbon’s physical properties. So, what should rovers such as Curiosity be looking for? Will they recognise evidence of other life forms easily?

A live stream of the mission
Last week astronauts on board the International Space Station spotted small white flakes floating away from the ISS. Suspecting a problem with the liquid ammonia cooling system that powers one of the station's solar arrays, they quickly arranged a space walk to fix it. Fortunately the situation is not life threatening. However, this is still the most impromptu space walk in the history of the ISS.

Cosmic rays
The process that causes lightning bolts to form is still a mystery. One theory states that cosmic rays play a role by ionizing the clouds, and the free electrons start a high-energy chain reaction that discharges into a lightning bolt. There is new evidence to help back up this theory. Radio waves from nearly 4,000 lightning strikes were analyzed and appear to match the model. There are some other inconsistencies to be worked out, but this may be a step in the right direction toward understanding lightning.
